Qatar is rapidly growing as a popular holiday destination in the Middle East, however, there are still a lot of hidden gems waiting to be explored. These offbeat destinations are a true portrayal of the exquisite beauty of nature as well as the rich heritage and tradition of the country. Here is a list of some of the hidden gems in Qatar.

1) Barzan Towers

This magnificent watchtower, located in Umm Salal Mohammed was built in the late 19th century and developed in 1910, standing at an impressive height of 16 meters, and was constructed using coral rock and limestone. It served as a vital lookout point for approaching ships. Apart from its strategic significance, the watchtower was also believed to have played an important role in protecting the water supplies of the region. Moreover, it was utilized as an observatory to track the moon's movements and determine lunar calendar dates.

2) Richard serra's "East-West/West-East" Sculpture

This sculpture by Richard Serra is a set of four standing steels situated in the remote area of Zekreet. In the stunning Brouq nature reserve, Spanning over a kilometre in length, this remarkable work of art is comprised of four massive steel plates, each standing over fourteen metres in height. The magnificence, size and vast background will make it an unforgettable sight to behold.

3) Film City, Ras Abrouq Peninsula

4) Al Jassasiya Rock Carvings

In a vast desertscape of 700 meters, lies an extraordinary collection of rock carvings that are indeed a sight to behold. These carvings portray a variety of images ranging from the shapes of animals, ships, geometric shapes and more. Discovered around 1957, the site showcases 874 carvings, which are commonly referred to as 'petroglyphs', with the earliest estimated to date back to the Neolithic era.

5) Sheikh Faisal Bin Qassim Al Thani Museum

The private museum situated in the town of Al-Shahaniya showcases over 15,000 rare and valuable items including exquisite works of art, incredible artefacts, coins, intricately woven carpets, and an impressive array of vehicles that once belonged to the esteemed Sheikh Faisal. A visit to this museum is a journey through time which offers a glance into the fascinating heritage, culture and tradition of the region and its people.

6) Dahl Al Misfir Cave

The Rawdat Rashid area has a magnificent natural surprise that is a must-visit for any nature lover. The enormous cave, DAHL AL MISFIR, is home to an array of stunning fibrous gypsum crystals. The depth of the site ranges from 40 meters to a minimum of 100 meters. The entrance measures approximately 12 x 4.5 meters. 
Researchers estimate that this amazing formation took shape between 325,000 and 500,000 years ago, making it a truly ancient and historic sight to visit.

7) Purple Island
