Kuwait has implemented electronic driving licenses for expatriates, in accordance with Ministerial Resolution No. (410) of 2023, as of Monday. This is approved by Sheikh Talal Al Khaled, First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, the resolution sets a one-year validity for these licences with options for renewal.
This new initiative, overseen by the General Traffic Department, eliminates the requirement for physical licence copies.
Through the Ministry of Interior's website or the "Sahel" government app expats can renew their licenses electronically. The activation of the new licenses will be activated through the "Kuwait Mobile ID" section within the app. The "Kuwait Mobile ID" app lets residents check their license status. A green mark means it's valid, while a red mark means it's expired. Note that truck drivers are excluded from this electronic license transition.
