Qatar's First Sandy Jogging Track to be Built at Al Gharrafa


Doha, Qatar: According to an official, a proposal to construct a two-kilometer sand pathway to promote fitness in Al Azghawa, Al Gharrafa has received preliminary approval from the relevant authorities.

Mubarak Feraish Al Salem, the Deputy Chairman of the Central Municipal Council (CMC) said, "The project, first of its kind in Qatar, will be a nine metres wide and 2km long jogging track along new Al Hateem Street in Al Gharrafa.”

"Coordination is being made with the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) to use the type of sand to meet the specifications for serving the purpose related to health benefits for joggers," he added.

He said Al Gharafa Park which is located at Umm Al Zuber Street in Al Gharrafa, will be expanded. 

"We at CMC demanded that the authorities concerned expand the Al Gharrafa Park to meet the growing number of visitors," said Al Salem.

"This land will be used for expansion project of Al Gharrafa Park. There is an initial approval to acquire this land but it will take some time for final approval and start the project," he further added.
