World Aquatic Championships - Doha 2024: Organisers Reveal Stunning Medals

Organizers of the World Aquatics Championships - Doha 2024 have unveiled the exquisite medals that will be awarded at World Aquatics' most prominent tournament, when it is held for the first time in the Middle East.

Over 2,600 athletes representing 197 nations will participate in 75 events in Doha, competing for the honor of being awarded the meticulously crafted gold, silver, and bronze medals; a symbol of prestige in Qatar.

The championship is scheduled to take place from February 2 to 18, 2024 at Aspire Dome, Hamad Aquatic Centre and the Old Doha Port.

What makes the medal special?

The medals, beyond their representation of success, embody Qatar's legacy and profound association with water. These medals are made of gold, silver, and bronze, and incorporating wood sustainably reclaimed from Qatar's traditional dhow boats. Their design incorporates mother of pearl, symbolizing Qatar's historical connection with pearl diving and marine life. Furthermore, the manufacturing process utilizes locally recycled brass, demonstrating the event's dedication to upholding sustainable practices.

Each medal is a reflection of the topography of the country and integral aspects of Qatari and Doha culture. The curvature of the medals imitates the intersection of water and desert dunes, a prominent feature of Qatar's stunning natural scenery.

Sheikha Asma bint Thani Al Thani, the Championships' Marketing and Communications Director, said: "We are thrilled to present the stunning medals for the World Aquatics Championships - Doha 2024. Each medal will not only celebrate the triumphs of the aquatics athletes but will also represent Qatar's rich heritage and love of water. As athletes strive for excellence, these medals stand as iconic symbols, specially designed to showcase the essence of Qatar, from its captivating landscapes to the enduring spirit of its people."
