On 24 June 2024, Monday, the head of the United Nations agency focused on supporting Palestinian refugees expressed concerns about the deterioration of civil order in Gaza which has led to widespread looting and smuggling, disrupting the distribution of aid.
The prolonged conflict of over eight months has worsened the already severe humanitarian crisis in the besieged Palestinian area. The United Nations has issued multiple warnings about the imminent risk of famine caused by human actions.
"We have witnessed unprecedented failures of humanity in a territory marked by decades of violence," said UNRWA chief Philippe Lazzarini.
Lazzarini added that Gazans were in "a living hell, a nightmare from which they cannot wake."
