The World Meteorological Organization (WMO) announced that 2024 is officially the hottest year on record, with global temperatures exceeding 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels.

This alarming development raises fears of increased severe climate disasters, as seen in California, where wildfires have resulted in at least 10 deaths and the destruction of nearly 10,000 structures.

The average global temperature in 2024 is recorded at 1.6°C higher than the late 19th century, with every month this year marking the warmest or second-warmest on record. UN Secretary-General António Guterres emphasized the need for urgent action from global leaders to address the climate crisis, stressing that while there is still time to mitigate the worst impacts, immediate steps are necessary.

The last decade has seen all ten years among the hottest on record, highlighting the ongoing trajectory of climate change.
