Doha, Qatar: The Sheikh Faisal bin Qassim Al Thani Museum has opened the World Cup in Stamps Exhibition, inaugurated by the museum's founder, H.E. Sheikh Faisal bin Qassim Al Thani, along with Exhibition Curator Mohammed Zantout and various guests. Launched in February as part of Qatar National Sports Day celebrations, the exhibition will be open to the public until the end February 2025.
The exhibition highlights the history of the FIFA World Cup through stamps, featuring key moments from the tournament's inception in 1930 to Qatar's hosting in 2022, including the first-ever World Cup stamp and the inaugural medal issue from Uruguay.
Qatar has significantly transformed its infrastructure, enhancing stadiums, metro systems, Hamad Port, Hamad International Airport, and tourism facilities over the past 12 years. To celebrate these achievements, Qatar Post launched a series of commemorative stamps related to the World Cup. The World Cup in Stamps Exhibition showcases the tournament's evolution, featuring a unique collection of stamps, including those specifically created for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022. This exhibition received a Special Large Silver Medal at the 2024 Shariah Exhibition for Stamps.
“The World Cup in Stamps Exhibition reflects a great effort by its creator. It is a comprehensive exhibition that documents the history of the FIFA World Cup tournaments through stamps, from its inception to the Qatar 2022 World Cup,” said Sheikh Faisal bin Qassim Al Thani.
“The stamps on display document and immortalise the memory of the great achievement of the 2022 FIFA World Cup, which is considered one of the best World Cup tournaments in history,” he added.
